We Are Making Dice! What Should Our Next Stretch Goal Be?

Greetings, delver—
We sallied into the dungeon, and came back with treasure!
We have unlocked the Ptolus dice. Our friends, the premier dice-makers at Q-Workshop, will make custom-designed Ptolus dice—perfect for your game table. Since 5e and Cypher System use different sets of dice, we’ve added two different sets to our add-ons—you can get the 5e set for $18, or the Cypher System set for $13. Backers at the EMPEROR level, you get a set as part of your reward; you’ll tell us which set you want after the campaign ends.
Where Shall We Go Next?
As we unlock stretch goals we’re asking you to choose the directions in which we explore. To recap:
- Roam the city to expand and improve the Ptolus book itself.
- Delve into the dungeons to unearth related treasures—separate items that benefit your Ptolus game.
- Or ascend the Spire to unlock entirely new content and products. But beware: the Spire is not for the meek. The further up the Spire we aim, the more experience we’ll need to gain in the other regions beforehand.
With each new stretch goal, we’ll open a survey to poll you, the backers, about this choice. The poll will be open for a limited time, after which we’ll tally the results and announce which way we’re headed—and what the next stretch goal will be.
You can vote for this stretch goal now! This poll will be open until midnight EDT (9:00 p.m. PDT)!
Once we have those poll results, we’ll announce them on the Kickstarter page, so be sure to stop by and see what’s next. Whatever the result, we’ll unlock the stretch goal when we get to $720,000.
Where will we go next?
Stuck at Home (Perhaps with Kids)?
Here’s a little something for gamers practicing social distancing, quarantined, or under a shelter-in-place restriction:
We’ll keep this sale open for as long as conditions warrant (subject, of course, to product availability).
The Votes Are In: We’re Headed into the Dungeon!

Greetings, delver—
The vote tally was really close, but overall you chose to head down into the dungeons again. Have a look at these:
This is a mockup of a set of custom Ptolus dice. If this delve into the dungeons is successful, our friends at Q-Workshop, makers of some of the world’s finest gaming dice, will produce these for us. The dice set will be produced in two versions: for Cypher System gamers, it will be a set of four dice (a specially marked d20, a d6, and percentile dice); for 5e players, you’ll get a full polyhedral set. It will be an add-on, and included in the EMPEROR backer level (your choice of systems). We unlock this goal at $660,000.
As we head into the final 48 hours of this campaign, the pace is really picking up. It’s quite possible we’ll hit this stretch goal fairly early tomorrow, and still have room for several more. What lies ahead for us? Some things that have been tossed around, within the Kickstarter comments, the virtual walls of MCG, and elsewhere, include:
- More adventures—and perhaps even bringing them into print as a book. (This would require another trip up the Spire.)
- More new art—you really seemed to like the new art we unveiled a couple of updates ago. (This would entail venturing into the city.)
- Additional conversions of existing Ptolus products, such as The Night of Dissolution and Chaositech. (This would also be a trip up the Spire.)
- A GM Notebook for Ptolus GMs to plot out and keep track of their campaigns. (We would find that one in the Dungeon.)
- A coin set from our friends at Campaign Coins, based on the Empire's coinage (and shown on page 155 of the original Ptolus book). (This would also be unearthed in the dungeons.)
These are a few of the possibilities. Please keep spreading the word, and let’s see what we can make happen!
The Banewarrens: Unlocked! Where Next?

Greetings, delver—
You took us up the Spire, and have come back not only alive, but successful! The Banewarrens will now be converted to 5e and the Cypher System!
This mega-adventure (or perhaps mini-campaign) pits the PCs against other Ptolus adventurers—some self-serving, some downright evil—in a race to seal the Banes: a collection of the worst, most nightmarish objects, artifacts, and creatures imaginable. Once sealed away by a powerful saint, these forces of evil have been unleashed again upon the world. Binding them will involved delving into the dungeons as well as the streets of Ptolus—but who can the PCs trust?
The Banewarrens, in PDF for both 5e and the Cypher System, is now part of the rewards of every backer at RESIDENT level and above!

Check Out This New Art!

Greetings, delver—
Our very first stretch goal, back in the early days of this campaign, unlocked eight pages’ worth of new art for the 5e and Cypher System versions of Ptolus: Monte Cook's City by the Spire. Our Art Director, the fabulous Bear Weiter, got that process started immediately, and we already have two half-page illustrations in. There may still be some tweaks to these pieces, but we just couldn’t wait to show them to you—so here they are!
It’s really neat to see stretch goals coming to life before the campaign is even finished. Speaking of which: We just unlocked a stretch goal Sunday, and as of this writing we’re now more than halfway to the next one—unlocking The Banewarrens. We are entering the most exciting phase of any Kickstarter campaign, and it’s not out of the question that we’ll hit three, four, five, or even more stretch goals before the whole thing is done.
So please keep spreading the word! There are tens of thousands of gamers who would really enjoy Ptolus, but don’t even know this campaign exists. If we can reach them, we can unlock The Banewarrens and many more stretch goals before Friday evening!
Can’t Get Together with Your Gaming Group? Got Kids Stuck at Home?
As we begin practicing social distancing, this is a great time to explore gaming online instead of in person. But if you’re new to online gaming, maybe you don’t know much about how to make the most of it. Great news: we’re releasing the Playing Games Online chapter from Your Best Game Ever, in its entirety, for free. We’ve rolled it into the free preview for that title, so if you download that, you’ll get the entire chapter on online gaming.
Games are also a great activity for kids stuck at home, and it so happens we make some great games for kids! To make it easier (particularly for families whose finances may be at risk from COVID-19) we’ve put the entire No Thank You, Evil! line on sale. Every No Thank You, Evil! product is 50% off. For families with older kids and teenagers (and adults, too!), the sale also includes the Numenera Starter Set.
We’ll keep this sale open for as long as conditions warrant (subject, of course, to product availability).
We Have Tallied the Votes: It’s Back Up the Spire!

Greetings, delver—
Voting on our next stretch goal is closed, and your decision was decisive: It’s back up the Spire we go!
Since we first announced our intention to create the new versions of Ptolus, we’ve been asked, over and over, about several related titles that Monte published alongside the original Ptolus: Monte Cook’s City by the Spire. So, at $600,000, we’ll unlock this:
This dynamic mega-adventure pits the PCs against other Ptolus adventurers—some self-serving, some downright evil—in a race to seal the Banes: a collection of the worst, most nightmarish objects, artifacts, and creatures imaginable. Previously sealed away by a powerful saint, these forces of evil have recently been unleashed upon the world. Binding them again will involved delving into the dungeons as well as the streets of Ptolus—but who can the PCs trust?
The Banewarrens is a mini-campaign (the original version took the PCs from 6th to 10th level) of well over 100 pages. It will be included, in PDF, for both 5e and the Cypher System, among the rewards of every backer at RESIDENT level and above.
